November Federation Dance – last traffic update

From Clinton:

I drove the construction area tonight and found nothing that concerns me for travel tomorrow on I-40 or I-77 North to or from Elkin.  There may be a lane closed for paving on I-77 South of I-40 to Troutman exit 45 (US 21/NC 115).  This is North of the suggested route to or from Mooresville and should be of no concern unless one chose to take I-40 to I-77 South instead of Old Mountain Road back to Troutman.  In the event that this is your plan, I would not anticipate any significant traffic backup on a Saturday night.

I should be available to help tomorrow if needed at 704-929-8456.

November Federation Dance News Blast!

We had over 20 squares register for the November Federation dance last year and we’re making plans for another great dance Saturday.  I see nothing that concerns me at this point relative to the road construction in Statesville.  I will continue to watch the situation carefully this week and try to post an update Friday night.  The hotel manager has agreed to hold the negotiate rate of $69 as long as space is available.  Should you experience a problem getting this rate this week, go ahead and make your reservation and let me know what happened.  I expect to be able to rectify it for you.

If you have any questions or concerns this week or run into traffic problems Saturday, call me for assistance.

November Federation Travel Update!

Major road construction continues in Statesville on I-40 just West of I-77 as well as on the I-40 and I-77 interchange.  I continue to be amazed at how little disruption in traffic flow we are seeing due to contractor related delays.  To the best of my knowledge, it has been over a year since there have been any lane closures during the daytime hours and that was weekend work setting new bridge girders over I-40 – not a  serious problem.  Occasionally we’ll see a nighttime lane closure, but that does not normally cause a significant traffic buildup.  The biggest concern is accidents and breakdowns where there is no pull off area available.  Caution:  Be alert for non-attentive drivers and lane shifts as you go through this construction area.

I will be closely monitoring the road conditions the week of the Federation and post anything I can find of significance.  Do not expect another posting concerning traffic conditions until that week.

Feel free to call with any Federation related questions you might have.

February 2014 Meeting and Dance

Time to think about the Federation Quarterly dance February 15, 2014 in Thomasville, NC! The dance will be held at Ball Park Road Community Center, 7003 Ball Park Road, Thomasville, NC 27360.

This dance will have a Callerama, Early Rounds and Advanced dancing in addition to Mainstream and Plus. There will be two halls so the A1/A2 will be held 2-4 PM and 6-6:45PM in a separate room. Early Rounds 6-6:45PM and Callerama 6:45-7:45PM. Mainstream/Plus will be 2-4PM and 8-10PM.

Final November Federation Update

I just drove all the I-40 / I-77 road construction area and as of 9:30 PM Friday night, I couldn’t see anything of concern. Both lanes were open everywhere. If you run into anything tomorrow and need help, call my cell.

From Charlotte:  Cheap gas alert change. Gas at exit 42 is now up to $3.119, but gas at Mooresville exit 36 was $2.999 today. If you stop, check the Shell station on your right at the top of the ramp. If that doesn’t work, turn left on 150. Several stations are that direction. Hess about ½ mile West of I-77 is usually one of the cheapest.

See you tomorrow.

November Federation Update #2!

The date through which the hotel guaranteed our rooms has now past. All the rooms that were blocked for dancers and not reserved have been put back into the hotel’s open inventory for the upcoming weekend. The good news is that the manager will continue to rent dancers rooms at the previously agreed upon price of $69.00 per night as long as space is available. So, if you missed the deadline, there’s still a possibility of the cheaper rate.

One food item change in Troutman:  KFC has closed.

For those coming from the Charlotte/Mooresville area, you will be leaving I-77 at exit 42. Cheap gas alert, relatively speaking anyway:   $300.9 at foot of the exit 42 ramp as of Monday November 11.

I plan to do a drive through the Statesville construction area Friday night and have another posting available Saturday morning.

NCDOT is not projecting any construction delays on I-40 or I-77 at this time for the weekend.

If you have any questions, please get back to me at 704-929-8456, or .

November Federation Dance Update!

Plans are underway for a great Federation Dance.  The Bethlehem UMC Family Life Center that we will be using is a very nice, relatively new facility. And it’s very easy to find – a mile or so South of I-40 at exit 144, just West of Statesville. See the flyer for detailed directions.

“A” dancers:   Don’t forget the 1:00 PM “A” dance.

I checked with the hotel last night and we still have several rooms available in our block, guaranteed through Sunday, November 10.  I also found out that the hotel is basically sold out that weekend and any rooms that we don’t reserve by November 10 will, in all probability, become unavailable to us.

Our road construction has been moving at what the locals consider a fast pace.  The best news is that, as far as I know, the contractor has kept 2 lanes open each way at all times during the day.  Occasionally, we’ll see one lane closed at night, but I’ve witnessed no traffic delays as a result.  Unless there is an accident or a vehicle breaks down where there is no pull off space available, there should be no problems getting through the construction zone.  Slow down and watch for the lane shifts! Expect another road construction update a couple days ahead of the dance.
